There are three main types of hedge trimmers: electric, petrol-powered, and cordless battery operated. Electric trimmers are lightweight, require less maintenance, and are typically more affordable. Petrol-powered trimmers are powerful, suitable for work in large gardens, and have the ability to handle thick and dense foliage. Cordless battery-operated trimmers are convenient, portable, and deliver performance similar to that of electric trimmers while eliminating the need for a power outlet.

When choosing a hedge trimmer in Kingates, it is essential to consider factors such as blade length, cutting capacity, and power source. Every gardener's requirements are different, so finding the right hedge trimmer depends on the specific tasks they will need to accomplish. The blade length impacts the cutting ability and performance, while cutting capacity determines the thickness of branches the trimmer can handle. The power source can influence the tool's ease of use and portability.

We've dedicated our time and research to help you find the perfect hedge trimmer to suit your gardening needs. In this article, we will delve deeper into the various types of hedge trimmers, their specifications, and their benefits, making the decision-making process seamless and straightforward.

For effortless, efficient hedge trimming, opt for the Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Hedge Trimmer; you won't be disappointed.

Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Hedge Trimmer With Battery and Charger - 46cm (18 Inch) Cutting Length, Laser-Cut Diamond-Ground Steel Blades - GE-CH 1846 Li Hedge Cutter Kit

We recently got our hands on the Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Hedge Trimmer, and we must say, we're impressed. The performance was powerful, thanks to the metal gearing, and the cordless feature made it incredibly convenient. No more tangled wires or restricted movement. As soon as we picked it up, we noticed the excellent balance this trimmer has when the battery is installed.

The counter-rotating blades, made of robust laser-cut and diamond-cut steel, provided an impressive cutting length of 46 cm. We found it excellent for light to medium trimming tasks, but for denser branches, it had some difficulties. Keep in mind that it might not be ideal for heavy-duty jobs.

One downside we did note was the battery life. While it was adequate for most tasks, we found ourselves wishing it would last just a bit longer. That being said, with the convenience of the Einhell Power X-Change battery system, swapping out batteries was a breeze. Overall, we believe that the Einhell 18V Cordless Hedge Trimmer provides a convenient and efficient solution for most hedge trimming needs.

Buying Guide

When looking for a hedge trimmer, it's essential to consider several features to ensure you choose the best product for your needs. In this buying guide, we will discuss the key factors to consider when selecting a hedge trimmer.

Power Source

There are three main types of hedge trimmers based on their power source: electric, cordless, and petrol-powered. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Electric trimmers are generally lighter and quieter, while cordless models offer more mobility without worrying about cords. Petrol-powered trimmers provide the most power but can be heavier and louder.

Blade Length

The blade length is a crucial factor to consider, as it determines the cutting capacity and reach of the hedge trimmer. Longer blades are suitable for larger hedges, while shorter blades offer better control and precision for smaller jobs. Choose a blade length that meets the requirements of your garden tasks.

Blade Length

Best For

Less than 45 cm

Small hedges and topiary

45 cm to 60 cm

Medium-sized hedges

Greater than 60 cm

Large hedges and professional use

Teeth Spacing

The spacing between the teeth on the blade affects the trimmer's cutting capacity. Wider teeth spacing allows for cutting thicker branches, whereas closer spacing is ideal for trimming thinner, more delicate hedges. Keep in mind the type of hedges you have when selecting the appropriate teeth spacing.

Additional Features

Consider some additional features that can improve the usability and safety of the hedge trimmer. These may include:

  • Rotating rear handle for better control and comfort during vertical cutting

  • Anti-vibration technology to reduce fatigue during prolonged use

  • Safety switches and blade guards to minimise the risk of accidents

By considering these factors, you can make an informed choice when selecting the best hedge trimmer for your gardening needs, ensuring efficient and precise trimming results.
