Now that summer is here it’s time to start thinking about your lawn and keeping it beautiful. It isn’t difficult, but it does take some care and dedicated time. You will find that one of the most useful tools is the grass trimmer.
Grass trimmers have two main purposes: 1) to reach parts of your garden that your regular lawnmower can’t and 2) to keep the edges of your lawn cleanly cropped. They are usually very convenient, lightweight and easy to use. You can bring your grass trimmer out and start your job within seconds.
There are three general types of grass trimmers: electric, cordless and petrol models. Electric are the most common. They normally connect with an extension cord to your garage or through an outdoor outlet. You are only limited by how far your extension cord can reach. These types of machines are very quick and powerful. You’ll never run out of power or need to put overwhelming care into your machine, other than normal day to day care and maintenance.
Another type of grass trimmer is the cordless. A lot of people like these because they aren’t attached to any one spot of your house or garage. You can move freely with them as needed—from the front to the back yard. These have rechargeable battery packs in them. As you would guess though, the only issue is that if you have a larger yard, or if you just want to spend more time tending to your grass, they can run out of power. Always check for the machines that have extended battery life or even have an extra battery pack included.
Finally, there is the trimmer that runs on petrol. These are usually reserved for heavy jobs or commercial use, but plenty of homeowners opt for them. Because they are built for big jobs, they tend to be a lot heavier than the other two models mentioned. Be prepared for the added weight. If your job is big though, they can get it done quickly and efficiently.
There actually is a fourth style that is a hybrid. It can be used as either a corded or cordless trimmer. The flexibility is nice and it usually comes in the form of a streamlined design for convenience.
If you are looking for a grass trimmer, consider the size of your garden/yard first. If you have a small area, you likely won’t have a problem with any of the trimmers, but the cordless likely will fit you just fine. On the other hand if you have a large yard with lots of edging, you likely are going to want a cordless model that can keep up without losing power no matter how long you need it.
Overall though, grass trimmers are great tools for the yard. You’ll likely love the one you pick once you see what this handy little machine can really do.
